Spiders in Malta
« am: 2012-02-15 18:58:13 »
Hi all
I would be very grateful if anyone could let me know whether there are any books or articles on the ineternet which deal with maltese spiders. The book I have (Bellmann) is very good but tends to concentrate on spiders which are found in central europe, and I have photographed many species which are not included in this book. The only other information I managed to come across is to be found here http://www.landesmuseum.at/pdf_frei_remote/ANNA_98B_0117-0156.pdf. Unfortunately (for me) this is in German, and I can only make out the Latin names, but this is helpful anyway.
Many thanks and best regards to all.

Albert

Hello Albert,

I think the best for you would be an annotated checklist, because you primarily take pictures and don't determine spiders genitaly, am I right? So it would be possible to compare your own pictures with the internet.

I didn't found a Checklist, but the Entomological Society of Malta is trying to include a checklist to their homepage in the future, maybe you can ask them for a beta-version?

Thanks Tobias.

You are quite right, I am not capable of identifing spiders when I come across a new species, and always ask the experts to help me id them.

I shall access the site you gave me, and try to make contact with a member of this society, and see whether I can obtain a copy of the checklist.

Many thanks to you all for the patience you have shown towards me.
